Not Yet Snow

by Kersten Christianson

First the hoarfrost
then the arrival:
Trumpeter swans.
And when I walk

the beaten path
through the estuary,
my arms sporting
gooseflesh, my boots

trailing a wake of fallen
alder leaves, I search
the sky for its flurry
of wings & words.
